The call to order was made by Blythe Thomas, the Governor of the Edward Fuller Colony, Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Florida, at the Southern Dunes, Haines City FL, 11:00 a.m. Colony Elder Audrey Wittholz gave the Invocation. Colony Captain Ginny Heller led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and the Salute to the Flag of Society of Mayflower Descendants. Margaret Wheaton read the Objects of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
Governor Thomas introduced our guests FSMD Governor Ren Cushing and FSMD Historian Muriel Cushing. Richard Wheeler, Richard Fuller, Anne Sears, Herb Heller, Sarah Preston, Dick Thomas, and Sandra and Bill Beninghof. Eleven members were in attendance.
FMD Historian Muriel Cushing conducted the Roll Call of Mayflower Ancestors.
Minutes of Previous Meeting – The minutes of the 1 Oct 2010 meeting were approved as published.
Treasurer’s Report: Lorraine Hooser
Balance 1 Oct 2011, $1671.55, Receipts $210.00, Disbursements $192.50, Balance 3 Dec 2011, $1689.05. The report will be filed for audit.
Historian Report: Margaret Wheaton.
One application is in Plymouth, and several applications are in the process. A number of inquiries have been received.
Junior Membership: Jane Brumbaugh,
One new application, 43 Junior members.
Governor’s Report:
Gov. Thomas read a note from Claire Miller stating that she regrets that she in unable to attend meetings at this time.
A letter of appreciation was received from Rozy Scott, the program manager of the Teaching American History Grant and Coordinator of the Polk County History Fair for our contribution.
Governor Thomas and Vice- governor Jim Preston attended the annual meeting of the Florida Society of Mayflower Descendants, held Nov. 19-20, 2011 in Miami.
Florida Governor Reynolds Cushing conducted the installation ceremony for the 2011 -2014 Edward Fuller Colony Officers: They are Colony Governor James Preston, Vice Governor Blythe Thomas, Secretary Jean Harden, Treasurer Barbara Reed, Historian and Registrar Margaret Wheaton, Elder Lorraine Hooser, and Captain Virginia Heller.
Governor Jim Preston, presented past Governor Blythe Thomas a Gold Mayflower Pin, on behalf of the members, in appreciation of her service.
Program: “Women of the Mayflower” was presented by Florida Historian Muriel Cushing. She stated that the society recognizes that the contribution of the women has not been recognized. There is now a research project to identify the role of the women passengers and descending women and daughters including their genealogy. The 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower consisted of 26 families, 31 of whom were children. After the first winter, 2/3 of the survivors were children .
Announcements: Richard Wheeler, newly appointed editor of the “The Florida Pilgrim” displayed the new masthead which was designed from a painting by Jeremy Banks. The cost for printing and postage is prohibitive. He requested that members presently receiving the Pilgrim by mail provide an email address in order to receive the newsletter which will then be in color. Next meeting: 4 Feb 2012 in Lakeland.
The Mayflower Compact was read by Jane Brumbaugh.
Elder Lorraine Hooser gave the Benediction.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:08 pm and lunch was served.
