			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The call to order was made by Blythe Thomas, the Governor of the Edward Fuller Colony, Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Florida, at the Southern Dunes, Haines City FL, 11:00 a.m.  Colony Elder Audrey Wittholz gave the Invocation. Colony Captain Ginny Heller led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and the Salute to the Flag of Society of Mayflower Descendants.  Margaret Wheaton read the Objects of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. </p>
<p>Governor Thomas introduced our guests FSMD Governor Ren Cushing and FSMD Historian Muriel Cushing. Richard Wheeler, Richard Fuller, Anne Sears, Herb Heller, Sarah Preston, Dick Thomas, and Sandra and Bill Beninghof.   Eleven members were in attendance.</p>
<p>FMD Historian Muriel Cushing conducted the Roll Call of Mayflower Ancestors.  </p>
<p>Minutes of Previous Meeting – The minutes of the 1 Oct 2010 meeting were approved as published.  </p>
<p>Treasurer’s Report: Lorraine Hooser<br />
Balance 1 Oct 2011, $1671.55, Receipts $210.00, Disbursements $192.50, Balance 3 Dec 2011, $1689.05. The report will be filed for audit.</p>
<p>Historian Report: Margaret Wheaton.<br />
One application is in Plymouth, and several applications are in the process. A number of  inquiries have been received.  </p>
<p>Junior Membership: Jane Brumbaugh,<br />
One new application, 43 Junior members. </p>
<p>Governor&#8217;s Report:<br />
Gov. Thomas read a note from Claire Miller stating that she regrets that she in unable to attend meetings at this time.<br />
A letter of appreciation was received from Rozy Scott, the program manager of the Teaching American History Grant and Coordinator of the Polk County History Fair for our contribution.<br />
Governor Thomas and Vice- governor Jim Preston attended the annual meeting of the Florida Society of  Mayflower Descendants, held Nov. 19-20, 2011 in Miami.</p>
<p>Florida Governor Reynolds Cushing conducted the installation ceremony for the 2011 -2014 Edward Fuller Colony Officers: They are Colony Governor James Preston, Vice Governor Blythe Thomas, Secretary Jean Harden, Treasurer Barbara Reed, Historian and Registrar Margaret Wheaton, Elder Lorraine Hooser, and Captain Virginia Heller.<br />
Governor Jim Preston, presented  past Governor Blythe Thomas a Gold Mayflower Pin, on behalf of the members, in appreciation of her service. </p>
<p>Program: “Women of the Mayflower” was presented by Florida Historian Muriel Cushing.  She stated that the society recognizes that the contribution of the women has not been recognized. There is now a research project to identify the role of the women passengers and descending women and daughters including their genealogy.  The 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower consisted of  26 families, 31 of whom were children. After the first winter,  2/3 of  the survivors were children .</p>
<p>Announcements: Richard Wheeler, newly appointed editor of the “The Florida Pilgrim” displayed the new masthead which was designed from a painting by Jeremy Banks. The cost for printing and postage is prohibitive.  He requested that members presently receiving the Pilgrim by mail provide an email address in order to receive the newsletter which will then be in color. The newsletter is also available on the website at: http://flmayflower.com/</p>
<p>Next meeting: 4 Feb 2012 in Lakeland.  </p>
<p>The Mayflower Compact was read by Jane Brumbaugh.   </p>
<p>Elder Lorraine Hooser gave the Benediction.<br />
The meeting was adjourned at 12:08 pm and lunch was served.</p>

<p><strong>Announcements:</strong> Historian <strong>Margaret Wheaton</strong>, introduced prospective members <strong>Marilyn Bulifant, Alan Corwith</strong>,  and <strong>Richard Fuller</strong>.  Guests present were  William Bulifant, Herb Heller, Dick Thomas.</p>

<p><strong>Historian Report:</strong> <strong>Margaret Wheaton</strong></p>
<p>The application of <strong>Roberta Flowers</strong>, whose Passenger was Richard Warren, has been approved by Plymouth. Currently several applications are in the process and our colony has no applications pending in Plymouth.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Junior Membership</strong>: In the absence of <strong>Jane Brumbaugh, Jim Preston</strong> gave the report. Three Junior members have aged out, and junior membership now totals 42.   No new applications have been received.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Governor’s Report</strong>:</p>
<p>The Florida Society of Mayflower Descendants will be held Fri. &amp; Sat., Nov. 19-20, 2010, at The Waterfront Inn, in the Villages, hosted by the James Chilton Colony. Registration forms are available on the FSMD website: http://flmayflower.com</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Old Business</strong>:  Proposed bylaws changes to Article IV, Sections 2 &amp; 4 were presented at the May 1, 2010 meeting and members were emailed a copy in September. The Proposed Amendments were presented by <strong>Jean Harden</strong> and were adopted unanimously.  The report of the nominating committee will now be presented in May, officers now will be elected in October and they will be installed in December.</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>New Business: </strong></p>
<p><strong>Ginny Heller</strong> moved that a silver Mayflower book be purchased in memory of <strong>Pauline Dupre</strong> to be presented to the Polk County Historical and Genealogical Library. Motion was seconded by <strong>Lorraine Hooser</strong> and passed unanimously.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The proposed 2011 Fuller Colony budget was presented. On a motion by <strong>Jim Preston</strong>, seconded by <strong>Ken Wooden</strong>, the budget was unanimously adopted. </p>
<p> </p>
<p>The colony bylaws require that a nominating committee consisting of the current Colony Governor and two members be elected at the annual meeting. Governor Thomas asked for nominations. G<strong>inny Heller</strong> nominated <strong>Jim Preston</strong> and <strong>Margaret Wheaton</strong> nominated <strong>Jean Harden</strong>. There being no further nominations. <strong>Jim Preston</strong> and <strong>Jean Harden</strong> were elected. At the May 2011 colony meeting, the committee will present a slate for new officers to serve 2012-15.</p>
<p><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Next meeting: 4 Dec 2010</strong>. </p>

<p>The <strong>Mayflower Compact</strong> was read by <strong>Lorraine Hooser</strong>.  </p>

<p><strong>Program: </strong></p>
<p><strong>“The When, Where, Who &amp; Why of the Witch Trials”</strong> was presented by <strong>Jean Harden</strong>. Several colony members have ancestors who were charged with witchcraft. Commonly referred to as the Salem Witch Trials, the trials were not limited to Salem.  Nearly all who were charged were convicted, some were eventually exonerated, but many were executed.  </p>

<p>The call to order was made by <strong>Blythe Thomas</strong>, the Governor of the Edward Fuller Colony, Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Florida, at Perkins Restaurant, Winter Haven, 11:10 a.m.  Colony Elder <strong>Audrey Wittholz</strong> gave the Invocation. Colony Captain <strong>Ginny Heller</strong> led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and Salute Flag of Society of Mayflower Descendants<strong>.  Jane Brumbaugh  </strong>read the Objects of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. </p>

<p>Eleven members, one prospective member, and two guests were present. <strong>Margaret Wheaton </strong>introduced<strong> Roberta Flowers, </strong>a prospective member<strong>.  Barbara Reed, whose passenger was Richard Warren, </strong>was welcomed as our newest colony member. <strong> </strong></p>

<p>Disbursements: Gen.Soc. Dues -$528.00, State dues- $432.00 –Total $960.00</p>

<p><strong> 26 of our 51 members have paid their dues for 2010</strong></p>

<p>H<strong>istorian Report:</strong>  <strong>Margaret  Wheaton</strong>, reported that currently our colony has no applications in Plymouth.  Forms and templates have been sent 4 applicants.</p>

<p><strong>Junior Historian:</strong>  Jane Brumbaugh reported that 1 junior member had been dropped for a total Junior Membership of 41</p>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Governor’s Report:   </strong>Vice Governor Jim Preston reported on the April 2010 FSMD BOA meeting held in Lakeland. Minutes are available on the FSMD website.</p>

<p><strong>PROPOSED BYLAW CHANGES </strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">ARTICLE IV &#8211; OFFICERS </span></strong></p>
<p>Section 1. The officers of the Colony shall be a Colony Governor, Colony Vice Governor, a<br />
Secretary, a Treasurer, an Historian, an Elder, and a Captain, and the Immediate Past Colony<br />
governor. (See Section 6 Below) These officers constitute the Board of the Colony.</p>
<p>Section 2. These officers shall be elected at three year intervals effective at the annual meeting<br />
beginning in 2005, a plurality of votes determining the choice.</p>
<p>Election shall be by ballot or by voice where only one person is nominated for an<br />
office.  <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">They shall assume office immediately following the annual meeting at which they were<br />
elected and shall continue to serve until their successors are duly elected and installed. </span></p>
<p>Officers shall be elected at the <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">May</span>  <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">October</span></strong>  meeting, shall be installed at the <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">October</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><br />
<strong> December</strong></span> meeting.</p>
<p>Section 3. All officers shall be elected for a term of three years. No officers who has been<br />
elected and has served a full term shall be eligible for re-election the next succeeding term with<br />
the exception of Colony Historian, Colony Treasurer and Colony Secretary who shall be eligible<br />
to succeed themselves for additional terms without limitation.</p>
<p>Section 4. A nominating committee, consisting of two members, plus the current Colony<br />
Governor, shall be elected at the annual meeting preceding the annual meeting for the election of<br />
officers. If the Colony Governor is unable or unwilling to serve, the current colony governor<br />
shall name a past colony governor to serve. This committee shall present the names of a full slate<br />
of officers at the <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">February </span><strong>  <span style="text-decoration: underline;">May</span></strong> meeting.  However, names may be presented from the floor for<br />
any of the positions to be filled.  <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">Officers shall be elected at the May meeting</span><span style="text-decoration: line-through;">, </span><span style="text-decoration: line-through;">shall be installed at<br />
the October meeting, and shall assume office following the annual state meeting</span><span style="text-decoration: line-through;">. </span></p>
